Tree Stump Removal

What is Tree Stump removal?

Tree stump removal is the process of completely eliminating the remaining portion of a tree after it has been cut down, leaving no visible trace of the stump.

There are several methods for stump removal:

  • Chemical Removal: Chemicals can be used to accelerate the decomposition f the stump. Chemicals are applied to the stump, causing it to rot over time. This method is slow and may take several weeks or months.
  • Manual Removal: Digging out the stump manually is another option. It involves using tools like an axe, mattock, or shovel to uproot the stump and its roots. This method is labor-intensive and time-consuming.
  • Stump Grinding: This is the most common technique. A stump grinder is used to chip away the stump, breaking it down into small wood chips. The depth of grinding depends on the desired level for replanting or repurposing the area.

The choice of method really depends on things like stump size, type of tree, location, and desired end result. A successful tree stump removal will leave you an area for new planting, construction or anything else.

Our Approach

In most cases, we opt for Stump grinding as it outperforms other techniques.

Tree stump grinding is a common and efficient method for removing tree stumps from the ground. It involves the use of a specialized machine called a stump grinder. This powerful equipment features a rotating cutting disk with sharp teeth that systematically grind the stump and its roots into small wood chips.

The process begins by positioning the stump grinder over the stump. The grinder’s rotating disk is then lowered onto the stump, gradually grinding it down to a predetermined depth. This depth can vary based on specific requirements, whether for replanting, landscaping, or complete removal of any remnants.

Stump grinding not only eliminates the visible portion of the stump but also grinds the roots below the surface, greatly reducing the likelihood of new growth.

Once the grinding process is finished, the remaining wood chips can be repurposed as mulch or disposed of, leaving the area clear and prepared for alternative landscaping or construction. This method is efficient, quicker than other techniques, and minimises ground disturbance compared to manual stump removal.

Nick and his friendly team took down a selection of trees that were growing right up against our house. The whole process, from the initial site visit to the removal was very professional and we are delighted with the result. The team was respectful of our garden and they took great care to leave our garden very tidy.
